At the Tribeca Film Festival prior to the screening Monday night of The Zen Of BennettTony Bennett’s longtime manager and son Danny Bennett said he wanted the 84-minute documentary, which he conceived, created, and produced (it was directed by Unjoo Moon) to be “a portrait and love letter to my father, to see who he is now, today, and for generations to come.”

But he then noted that this would be the first time his dad would see the film—along with a Tribeca Performing Arts Center audience of family, friends and notables including festival co-founder Robert De Niro, Harry Belafonte, Michael Moore, the parents of Lady Gaga, who was one of many stars gracing Bennett’s latest album Duets II—his biggest-selling album ever—and Mitch Winehouse, father of Amy Winehouse, whose final recording was with Bennett for the album.

“So I may be sent to my room later!” said Danny, who clearly wasn’t, as he was seen at the Tribeca Grill after-party with Tony Bennett, who was basking in the film’s glory, and deservedly so: He had brought the house down, in the film and the Q&A that followed, as if he had just done a concert—and was likewise rewarded with a long standing ovation.
